Legalizing Cannabis

Indiana Democrats have said repeatedly that it’s time to create a better future for Indiana and its families; therefore, the Indiana Democratic Party is calling on the Indiana General Assembly to legalize recreational marijuana during the 2022 legislative session.

We’re serious. Legalizing cannabis would bring transformational -- and positive -- changes to Indiana. And here’s the best part: more than 80-percent of Hoosiers already support some form of legalization.

So when Democrats claim it’s one of the most-pressing issues important to voters, we literally mean it.

Here’s what could happen once it’s legal to purchase cannabis across Indiana:

  1. The state’s ag and business communities will have the opportunity to create another revenue stream for the Indiana General Assembly,

  2. We’ll create a lot more good-paying jobs -- and compete with surrounding states in the process,

  3. All Hoosiers - including veterans and seniors - will have access to the therapeutic benefits of cannabis,

  4. Indiana can deliver a solid punch in the fight against the opioid epidemic,

  5. Legalization is another opportunity to expunge criminal records of Hoosiers who were arrested for simple possession,

  6. It’s just the right thing to do.
